Nokia at last understood the advantage of manufacturing Android Smartphones and came out with the Nokia X series, starting from Nokia X—Nokia X+—Nokia XL. These three smartphones are equipped with the Google’s open-source project ‘Android’ although the interface of the devices are layered with Nokia’s Interface but the background stuff is all based upon Linux(mother of Android). Nokia did launch Android Smartphones but due to a contract with Microsoft, Nokia missed Google Playstore. The existing Nokia Store in the X-series is only offering a limited Android Apps but you don’t need to worry about that cause today I am going to tell you How to root Nokia X, X+, XL and install Google Play Store.

SO LET US BEGAN WITH ROOTING AND INSTALLING PLAY STORE IN NOKIA X-SERIES. NOTE THAT ROOTING MIGHT VOID YOUR WARRANTY  MAKE SURE YOU DO IT ON YOUR OWN RISK!
REQUIREMENTS:
  1. At least 60% charged phone.
  2. Enable USB Debugging from Phone Settings>> Developers Options.
  3. Also do not forget to check allow installations from “Unknown Sources” which is available within Settings tab.
  4. Back-up all your data.
  5. Download required files.

How to root Nokia X, X+, XL:
  1. Download Framaroot from the link above and install it in your phone.(make sure you enabled ‘unknown sources’ available within setting tab).
  2. Once the installation is complete open Framaroot app, you will be prompted with several options just choose ‘install super su’ and than tap on ‘Gandalf’.Root-Nokia-X
  3. Now you will be prompted with a message saying ”superuser and su binary installed” Simply click ok and Reboot your device.
  4. Once the device will reboot you will have root access (Cogratzz).

How to install Google Play Store on Nokia X, X+, XL:
  1. Download and extract Nokia X-Gapps package and place it in your phone.
  2. Install Root Explorer App from the link above.
  3. Once installed open it and give it root access.
  4. Now Copy the extracted apk files to /System/App and change files permissions like this:Root-explorer
  5. Once you have done as above picture simply click ok and Reboot your Device.
  6. After the Reboot Playstore should have been successfully installed on your Nokia X.
  7. (Congratzz) Now open Google Play Store and it should be working perfect! First it will ask you for Google Account, just enter your email and password and enjoy with Playstore’s million’s of free Apps!
How to Install Custom ROMs
  1. First of all, Creat backup of your current rom.
  2. download the proper update file for your mobile on computer.
  3. Optional: download the Google apps package if it is not included on the firmware file.
  4. Save the files on desktop; don’t unzip them.
  5. Then, connect your handset with the computer.
  6. Establish the connecting by using the USB cord.
  7. Copy-paste or drag and drop the downloaded files from desktop to your phone’s (tablet’s) SD card.
  8. Disconnect the devices by unplugging the USB cable.
  9. Turn off your smartphone / tablet and wait a few seconds.
  10. Then reboot your gadget into recovery mode.
  11. Next, navigate through the recovery mode menu and select “wipe data factory reset”, “wipe cache partition” and “wipe dalvick cache”.
  12. The system will now be wiped out, so that’s why the backup has been recommended before.
  13. Up next, return to recovery main menu: select “+++go back+++”.
  14. And choose “install zip from SD card” and “choose zip from SD card”.
  15. Pick the update file and flash the same.
  16. Optional: repeat this operation for applying the Google Apps package.
  17. When the installation process ends, from recovery select “+++go back+++” and “reboot system now”.
  18. You are done.

Troubleshooting:

In some cases after flashing the custom ROM, when rebooting the first time, your handset might get stuck in a boot loop (if the first boot takes longer than usual, don’t panic, there is nothing wrong with your device); if that happens, follow:
  • Reboot in recovery once more.
  • From there select “wipe data factory reset” and “wipe cache partition”.
  • Return and reboot.
  • Optional: if needed now you can restore the previous software  So, use the recovery menu and select “backup and restore”.
  • For resolving any other issues or problems use our dedicated step by step guide.
