Rooting the Nexus 7 is easy and now Chainfire released his own application for you to use with your tablet. Use all the info that I have listed in this post and make sure to ask for more help in comments in case you cannot root the ASUS Nexus 7.
This tutorial is meant for Nexus 7 2013 ‘flo’ (Wi-Fi device only). If your device is already on an unlocked bootloader, then the data that’s currently stored on it won’t be deleted. However, if your tablet is not unlocked then you should that this guide will unlock its bootloader and apply root, but that means that the data stored on it will be removed. More info about all this can be found in the preparation guide below.
Here’s what you need to know before moving to the tutorial and what actions you need to take to make sure that you’ll apply the root on Nexus 7 at your first attempt:
Note: First try this auto root method if it fails then go for the procedure explained in this post

In the below step-by-step guide we will cover on rooting ASUS / Google Nexus 7 2013 Wifi model using CF-Auto-Root tool by Chainfire. This detailed guide can be used to Root ASUS / Google Nexus 7 on Android 5.0 LolliPop Stock Firmware.

Requirements:
1. A Windows based Computer (Xp-Vista-Win7-Win8) or MAC/ Linux
2. Download and install ANDROID SDK for the Computer to recognize the device.
3. Enable Usb Debugging from Phone Settings>Developers Options.
3. Back up all your important data to a secure system. Follow this guide
4. Ensure the phone is atleast 60% charged.
5. Download CF-Autoroot for your Device

Warning!
This rooting tutorial is only applicable for ASUS / Google Nexus 7 2013 Wifi . So, don't try this in any other android device. Check your device model number from- Settings-About Phone
Rooting voids your phone's manufacturer warranty. However, you can get back the warranty anytime by following proper unroot process or by flashing official firmware.
This guide is for educational purpose and you should try this at your own risk. We are not responsible if your device experience a soft brick after following this tutorial.
Now that you know all of the above, move to the tutorial guide below and learn how to successfully root your tablet device.
How to root the ASUS / Google Nexus 7 with CF-Auto-Root-Tool:
1.  Download the CF-Auto-Root zip file from HERE, for the Nexus 7 flo (Wifi model).
2.  Extract the zip contents of the CF-Auto-Root tool. Place them all in a single folder on your PC desktop.
3.  Power off your Nexus 7 tablet. Now boot it into Fastboot mode by pressing ‘volume down’ and ‘power’ buttons at the same time. When the ‘START’ text appears you should connect your smartphone to your PC using the USB cable.
4.  Open the folder created at step 2 and launch the ‘root windows bat’ file. This will launch the tool you’ll use to root the tablet.
5.  Press any key to begin the Nexus 7 root.
6.  Follow the on-screen instructions and some time during the root process, you’ll see that the Nexus 7 rebooted and then it will boot into normal mode.
7.  You can unplug the tablet from PC when the root is complete.
8.  Check your app drawer for the ‘SuperSu’ icon. This is the application that adds root access to your phone. If this app doesn’t appear in the app drawer, then it might not have been installed by the root tool, and this means that you need to install it from Google Play Store.
9.  These were all the steps that you had to take and now you can begin to install other and new useful apps that previously asked for root access and you couldn’t grant that since the device was on stock firmware.

Users that aren’t running Windows computer and are instead using Linux or Mac systems should read the instructions listed below as they will need to apply steps 1,2 and 3. After that, enter the command lines listed below to push the root files on the Nexus 7 tablets.
Here’s what you need to do:
For Linux OS:
·         Launch terminal.
·         Make sure that you’ve extracted the files in the zip downloaded at tutorial step 1.
·         Connect the tablet to PC.
·         Enter this command line: chmod +x root-linux.sh
·         Run the file named ‘root-linux.sh’.
·         Complete the onscreen instructions and when you’re done you can unplug the phone from PC.
For Mac OS X:
·         Launch terminal.
·         Download and extract the zip from the link listed in the tutorial step 1.
·         Connect your Nexus 7 to computer.
·         Enter this in the terminal window: chmod +x root-mac.sh
·         Now go to the folder and launch this file: root-mac.sh.
·         Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the root.
That’s it, these are all the instructions that you had to follow and now, your device should be rooted. If you cannot complete the root, then you should ask for extra help in our comment field. We will try to come up with a useful solution to your problems.

How to Install Custom ROMs:
  1. First of all, Creat backup of your current rom.
download the proper update file for your mobile on computer.
  2. Optional: download the Google apps package if it is not included on the firmware file.
  3. Save the files on desktop; don’t unzip them.
  4. Then, connect your handset with the computer.
  5. Establish the connecting by using the USB cord.
  6. Copy-paste or drag and drop the downloaded files from desktop to your phone’s (tablet’s) SD card.
  7. Disconnect the devices by unplugging the USB cable.
  8. Turn off your smartphone / tablet and wait a few seconds.
  9. Then reboot your gadget into recovery mode.
  10. Next, navigate through the recovery mode menu and select “wipe data factory reset”, “wipe cache partition” and “wipe dalvick cache”.
  11. The system will now be wiped out, so that’s why the backup has been recommended before.
  12. Up next, return to recovery main menu: select “+++go back+++”.
  13. And choose “install zip from SD card” and “choose zip from SD card”.
  14. Pick the update file and flash the same.
  15. Optional: repeat this operation for applying the Google Apps package.
  16. When the installation process ends, from recovery select “+++go back+++” and “reboot system now”.
  17. You are done.

Troubleshooting:

In some cases after flashing the custom ROM, when rebooting the first time, your handset might get stuck in a boot loop (if the first boot takes longer than usual, don’t panic, there is nothing wrong with your device); if that happens, follow:
  1. Reboot in recovery once more.
  2. From there select “wipe data factory reset” and “wipe cache partition”.
  3. Return and reboot.

Optional: if needed now you can restore the previous software So, use the recovery menu and select “backup and restore”.
