If you’re planning on rooting your Galaxy S4 Mini and its Android 4.2.2 firmware, then this is the guide that you should be using to achieve superuser access.
In order to complete the root process at your first attempt you will first have to take a look at the guidelines below:
  • use this post only with the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini model number I9190.
    – don’t try to root your smartphone in case its model number is different from the one listed above.
    – the model number of your phone is listed under Settings > About Device menu.
  • install the Samsung USB Drivers on your computer.
    – download them from here.
    – these drivers will allow your device to be detected by Odin, the app that we will use to apply root.
  • disable any antivirus and the Samsung KIES software from running on your computer.
  • when the root is achieved you will lose warranty.
    – it can be restored only if you flash a brand new stock Android OS update.
  • enable USB Debugging option from Developer Options menu.
    – check here on how to enable USB Debugging for your device.
    – I know that’s a guide for Galaxy S5, but it works for any Samsung device.
  • check the phone’s battery charge level and make sure that it is over 50%, so that the device won’t switch off in the middle of the rooting process.
  • read the whole guide, don’t skip any steps and you should complete root in under five minutes.
  • note that we cannot be blamed in case you brick the phone or lose any data file in the process.
These were the guidelines you had to go over before getting to the next step.

How to root Galaxy S4 Mini I9190 with CF-Auto-Root by Chainfire:

  1. Download the CF-Auto-Root tool from here.
    – extract the contents of the zip and save the Cf-Auto-Root.tar file on your PC.
  2. Download Odin 3.09 here.
    – extract the Odin zip contents and save the files on your PC.
    – note that in case Odin 3.09 doesn't work, then you should try to use Odin 3.07.
  3. Power off the smartphone now.
  4. Now you have to boot it in Download Mode by pressing and holding Volume Down, Home and Power buttons, all at the same time.
  5. Launch the Odin exe on your computer.
  6. Connect the phone to your PC via USB cable.
    – wait for Odin to detect the phone and then continue to the next step.
    – if Odin doesn’t recognize your smartphone you will have to re-install the Samsung USB Drivers.
  7. Return to Odin window and click the ‘AP’ button tab for Odin 3.09 or the ‘PDA’ button for Odin 3.07.
  8. Browse your PC and find the CF-Auto-Root.tar file.
  9. Load that file in Odin.
    – make sure that Re-partition option is disabled.
    – don’t edit other Odin Settings.
  10. When you’re ready for the root to begin you simply have to press the START button.
  11. Wait until the process is complete and then you will see the phone rebooting. Odin should also display the ‘PASS’ green icon.
  12. If you want to confirm that root has been achieved you have to use the Root Checker app from Google Play Store.
These were all the steps that you had to follow in order to achieve root for your device.
